We wanted to make you aware that the below service is available at ALL doctor’s surgeries in our area. You just contact your doctor’s and ask for an appointment with the PCN CAMHS Mental Health Practitioner.
The service is for all children and young people under 18 years in the Bishop Auckland area. It’s part of a wider team spread cross County Durham.
I am the PCN (Primary Care Network) CAMHS mental health practitioner for Bishop Auckland. I am based at 3 surgeries: Bishopsgate, The Station View Medical Practice and Auckland Medical Group.
I have attached some information about the service. To put it simply, any young person, their parent or carer can book an appointment with me if there are concerns about the child or young person’s mental health. They are required to call their GP surgery and request an appointment. The concerns can include:
• Problems with mood/low mood/depression
• Reduced motivation
• Anxiety
• Worry/Panic
• Stress
• Tearfulness
• Feeling snappy/irritable
• Minor self-harming behaviour
• Sleep
• Eating Difficulties
• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
• Emotional/behavioural difficulties
• Where the child or young person has a need associated with a neurodevelopmental condition, such as Autism/social communication needs or attentional difficulties such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD).
• Psychosis (hearing voices/visual hallucinations)
We are not a crisis service. We usually do not work with young people already active in the CAMHS service. We are primary level and can offer some brief interventions as well as link in/signpost with other services if necessary. We can also support referrals into other CAMHS teams.
